Effect of the regulation requirement to the spread of the hygienic designs based on a standard

Abstract(in English) JIS B 9650 series has prescribed the requirements for the hygienic design of food-processing machinery. These standards are contained in the category of the safety of machinery, which consistent with ISO. Therefore, requirement of a hygienic design of them follows ISO14159, also related the European standard is the same. However, there are not many companies in Japan which refers to these standards. There are a number of machine and food companies who does not know this standard. On the other hand, almost machine companies are referring to EN which prescribed the requirement of the hygienic design in Europe. Furthermore, the food companies are also demanding the machine which fulfills the requirement of EN. The machine based on a standard is indispensable to achieve food safety. This paper makes obvious from a regulation side the main causes of inducing the difference in the standard saturation level between Japan and Europe.
