Development of Wide Area and Reliable ZigBee-based Sensor Network with Router Duplication

Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a new sensor network featuring both long range and high reliability in outdoor environment. It is difficult to extend communication range because ZigBee has low transmitting power. If nodes are located on the maximum communication range, it is difficult to find an alternative route when a connecting router has any trouble. It results in low communication reliability. Therefore, obtaining both long range and high reliability is challenging. New transceiver architecture is proposed that employs a high-gain directional receiving antenna and can extend the communication range. The receiving antenna has been fabricated and its performance is evaluated. Moreover, a duplicated router system is proposed to maintain the reliability, and the operation program for this system has been implemented. It is verified by experiment that the proposed duplicated system with three hops performs with high reliability in outdoor environment.
