Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), most efficient routing methods are based on clustering or non-clustering approaches. Though, in clustering methods, cluster heads around the sink tend to have heavy traffic. Non-clustering communication methods are preferable for traffic distribution in dense areas. Though it is not suitable for wide area networks due to lack of extensibility. By the way, in recently focused heterogeneous WSN models, by introducing a few special nodes with high-end communication capability and extra battery energy. In this paper, we propose a hybrid routing method for heterogeneous WSN which adaptively combines clustering and non-clustering communication methods where nodes placed near to sink perform a multi-hop network and nodes far away from sink perform clustering. Furthermore, we approximately analyze optimal spatial boundary between both methods and propose a method to dynamically re-define the spatial boundary by considering the variance of the residual energy of a boundary node and its adjacent nodes. Simulation results show that our method significantly increases network lifetime in comparison with pure clustering and multi-hop communication methods.
