Medical Image Overlay System with a tablet PC and three markers

Abstract(in English) We have developed a medical image overlay system with a tablet PC and three circular markers. The tablet PC calculates the position alld orientation(POSE) of a back camera, which is attached to the tablet PC, relative to the patient by using our proposed method, and the system constructs appropriate overlay images of 3-D CG modelfrom medical images such as MRI or CT images by using the POSE data and overlays them onto video images of the surgical-field on the tablet PC's monitor. In a phantom experiment, the image overlay error was less than 1.0mm, and it was considered that the proposed system enables surgeons to navigate the surgical target intuitively and accurately.
