Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Several blind persons can perceive obstacles using the sense of hearing. If the sounds which are easy to perceive obstacles are used for Hand-Held sound generator, it is useful for efficient acquisition of obstacle perception ability. We made Hand-Held sound generator using white noise, and evaluated the relation of obstacle size and distance to the obstacle. As a result, we can perceive an obstacle which is near to us until 1.0m; however, we cannot perceive one which is far from us over 2.0m. To investigate whether or not the sound generator helps obstacle perception, we conducted a hearing experiment to focus on a scan and a direction of the sound generator. As a result, scanning the sound generator may improve obstacle perception ability.
