Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For sign language recognition with Hidden Markov Model (HMM), it isdesired that a topology of a HMM reflect the variety of hand motions. We propose a method to construct a HMM that has branches and junctionsto appropriately reflect the variety of a word. Many candidate HMMs are generated from sub-motions extracted fromtraining samples. An appropriate HMM is selected by evaluatingcandidates with real samples and virtual samples generated by aspecially made HMM.By using virtual samples, excessive specialization to specific samplescan be avoided. With experiments, we show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
