Chroma Enhancement Method Considering Effect of Lightness and Hue

Abstract(in English) Lightness, chroma, and hue are defined as independent values each other in the CIELAB or CIELUV color spaces. However, the Helmholtz-Kohlrausch (H-K) effect---vivid colors are perceived as brighter than dull colors which have same lightness---is known. Therefore, in those color spaces, perceived lightness is increased even if chroma is only increased. In this report, the chroma enhancement method which preserves perceptual lightness is proposed considering the H-K effect. The proposed method preserves hues in an input image to keep naturalness of the image. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by experiments.
