Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We report a trial to assess users' ability to quickly and accurately grasp patterns such as figures and menus presented on a tactile display Using an enlarged display with limited pin spacing and display area, we found that enlargement and application of vibration to individual objects clearly affected users' ability to perceive the spatial position of objects. when subjects were asked to reproduce the positions of patterns of arbitrarily-placed objects that they previously sensed by touch, we found that(a)the spatial position error increased for non-integral enlargement ratios,(b)the spatial position error tended to decrease with the application of vibration, and(c)the relationship between enlargement and reproduced position error depends on the object pattern.
