Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Spatial distributions of the brain activity evoked by overt speech and covert speech have been investigated using fMRI and it has been found that cortical areas activated by overt speech approximately overlap with those activated by covert speech. It is, however, unknown whether each corresponding cortical area serves a similar function; the previous studies were interested in the cortical area level, but not in more precise level such as voxels. This paper suggests that there is the functional similarity between the cortical areas activated by overt speech and covert speech of Japanese syllables by means of investigating linear correlations between voxel patterns acquired during overt and covert speech tasks.
