Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Break arcs are generated between Ag and C contact pairs in a DC48V and 10A resistive circuit. A external transverse magnetic field of the permanent magnet is applied to the break arcs. The position and shape of the break arcs are investigated. The time of the sudden increase of the gap voltage V_g is defined as t_s. In the case of Ag contact pairs, before the time t_s, the cathode and the anode spot regions move together in the vertical positions. After the time t_s, the cathode spot region is shifted upward earlier than the anode spot region, that is independent of the strength of the transverse magnetic field B_x. In the case of C contact pairs, the break arc doesn't move upper edge of the contact surface, that is independent of the strength of the transverse magnetic field B_x. The position of the break arcs just before arc extinction tended to shift upward with increase of the B_x.
