Dynamic Analysis of Head Orientation and Facial Expression using Depth Image

Abstract(in English) This paper describes the development of two methodologies for spatial and temporal analysis of facial expressions based on dynamic depth image analysis. To analyze a face shape as a frontal face, the head orientation needs to be known in advance. We, therefore, propose a methodology for head orientation estimation using depth images. And then, we propose a method for spatial and temporal smile analysis by approximating the transition of several feature points while smiling. We verified the feasible measurement of the dynamic physical features of the facial expression. And such methods can also be used in investigating the relationships among facial expression features.
