Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The authors previously proposed a simplified method of blindly estimating speech transmission index (STI) in room acoustics based on the concept of the modulation transfer function (MTF). This method effectively estimates STI from the observed reverberant AM signal by estimating inverse MTF in which the room impulse response (RIR) is modeled as the Schroeder's artificial RIR. However, there is a problem that the method could not correctly estimate STI if the measured RIR could not be modeled as the Schroeder's RIR. This paper proposes a method of blindly estimating MTF/STI by assuming the modified Schroeder's RIR (generalized RIR) to solve the above problem. In the proposed method, MTF is estimated by estimating two parameters (reverberation time and the order of n) from the reverberant AM signal with two modulation frequency components. Generalized RIR is estimated from the estimated MTF. IEC 6026816:2003 is used to estimate STI from estimated MTFs. Simulations results revealed that the proposed method could be used to correctly estimate MTF/STI in comparison with the previous method.
