Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Intracranial pressure (ICP) can be assessed using infrasound because tympanic membrane displacement results from the transmission of ICP waves via the cochlear duct to the inner ear and then via the oval window to the auditory ossicles of the middle ear. The relationship between the infrasound pressures from the tympanic membrane (ear canal pressure (ECP)), which is detected using an earplug embedded with a low-frequency microphone, and the carotid artery (carotid artery pressure (CAP)), which is detected using a bell type stethoscope fitted with the same microphone, can be quantitatively characterized using a technique of systems analysis. This method does not allow us to measure absolute ICP levels. An elastance is derived from the ratio of the measured pressure (ECP_Δ_p) and volume changes (CAP_ΔV). The correction coefficient α of the elastance in two body positions is derived from magnetic resonance (MR) imaging measurements of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood flow.
