Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A fault location technique for PONs is essential for improving the service reliability of optical fiber networks. OTDR is a technique that is widely used in conventional testing systems. However, it is unsuitable for PONs because it cannot distinguish Rayleigh back-scattered light from different tributaries. We have proposed a PON fault location technique that uses Brillouin gain analysis, which can locate individual fault points in branched optical fibers without the need to add optical components to the PON system. In this measurement, a branch fiber identification resolution and a fault location resolution are specified individually by setting a probe pulse width and a pump pulse width respectively. In this paper, the proposed method is tested for 32-branched PON with 10m fault location resolution, 2m fiber identification resolution, 90 seconds measurement time.
