Abstract(in English) A new bidirectional 24-channel optical-electrical (O/E) hybrid module with polynorbomene (PNB) based optical waveguide was fabricated by standard packaging process. In the O/E module, 12-channel vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diode (VCSEL) arrays and 12-channel photodiode (PD) arrays, integrated circuits (ICs) were flip-chip assembled on a flexible printed circuit (FPC). Two FPCs are bi-directionally linked via the low-loss PNB waveguide. We successfully demonstrated data transmission up to 16 Gbps/channel, in total 400 Gbps class, by using the O/E module. Moreover potential 1 dB alignment tolerance between waveguides, mirrors, and optical chips, and alignment accuracy after assembly was evaluated.
