Abstract(in English) | Reduced power inter-cell interference coordination (RP-ICIC) is a time domain multiplexing (TDM-) ICIC technique that has been studied for LTE-Advanced in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). It reduces the transmission power for specific time resources (ICIC subframes) whereas conventional zero power (ZP-) ICIC stops the signal transmission in ICIC subframes. Cell Range Expansion (CRE) has been also studied since it make TDM-ICIC technique more effective. This paper clarifies the relationship among the conditions where RP-ICIC is effective compared to ZP-ICIC, the design of transmission power and the throughput gains of RP-ICIC in heterogeneous networks (HetNets) with pico cells. The analysis reveals that RP-ICIC can improve the 5% worst user throughput when the throughput of user equipment (UE) attached to macro base station is low. It means that RP-ICIC provides the benefits compared to ZP- ICIC in the following conditions, (a) the ICIC subframe ratio is large, (b) the CRE bias value is small. The throughput gain of 5% worst user throughput when RP-ICIC is applied can achieve up to 17.5% compared to ZP-ICIC. |
