Development of Fiber Bundle Type Fan-out for Multicore Fiber

Abstract(in English) Multicore fiber (MCF) is paid much attention as a breakthrough for expanding transmission capacity of optical network. For practical application of MCF, the establishment of its connectivity technology is essential. In this study, we developed fiber bundle type fan-out (Fiber bundle type fan-out: FBF) for MCF. We developed the method with surface tension of adhesive for precise arrangement of thin-cladding fiber, and confirmed core-to-core pitch distribution within ±0.5μm. We also evaluated optical properties of FBF whose core-to-core pitch is 45μm and 50μm. Splice loss between FBF and MCF whose core pitch was corresponding to each FBF were measured and confirmed less than 0.50dB and 0.35dB, respectively. Finally we evaluated cross-tall in case 2 FBFs were aligned and bonded to both ends of MCF, and confirmed less than -53dB in 45μm- pitch and -64dB in 50μm- pitch.
