Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have demonstrated a passively mode-locked fiber laser with SWNT-based saturable absorbers made by uniformly dispersing SWNTs into polymer such as poly methyl methacrylate, or by depositing SWNTs on the optical fiber end. However, the output power of the lasers is limited to less than 10 mW due to relatively low tolerance to optical damage of these SWNT-based saturable absorbers. In this work, we fabricated a SWNT saturable absorber with a substantial increase in the optical damage threshold by sealing SWNT with siloxane which has a high heat resistance. By installing this saturable absorber in a passively mode-locked fiber laser, a 31 mW, 280 fs ultrashort pulse was successfully generated.
