Free electron laser irradiation effect of In-plane aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes

Abstract(in English) The purpose of this study is synthesis of in-plane aligned and chirality controlled single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) for nano electronic devices. As a first step, in-plane aligned SWNTs is addressed to synthesize on r-cut Al_2O_3 substrate, and chirality control of the SWNTs is undertaken by free electron laser (FEL) irradiation during growth on SiO_2/Si substrate. On r-cut Al_2O_3 substrate without FEL, the Raman spectrum shows growth of semiconducting SWNTs, and the surface image demonstrates that the aligned SWNTs are observed along the [-1101] direction, although the length of the SWNTs is approximately 500 nm. On SiO_2/Si substrate, grown SWNTs with 800nm-FEL irradiation is only semiconducting with six kinds of chilarity, demonstrated by the Raman spectra with multi excitation lasers.
