A New Higher Order Differential Property of Hierocrypt

Abstract(in English) Hierocrypt is a family of block ciphers with SPN structure proposed by Toshiba. Hierocrypt-L1 is for 64-bit block length, and Hierocrypt-3 is for 128-bit block length. For higher order differential property, it has been shown 8-th order differential characteristic for one round (two S-box layers) and 32-nd order differential characteristic for two rounds (four S-box layers). We searched for 8n-th to 32-nd order differential property comprehensively for Hierocrypt-L1 and Hierocrypt-3. As a result, we found new higher order differential characteristics for three S-box layers of 16-th and 24-th order differential property. We show that these characteristics are based on the structure of permutation matrixes mds_L and MDS_H.
