Abstract(in English) Low-loss connection of the multi-core fibers requires precise core alignment. Rotational alignment might become easily by using the non-circular cladding fiber with the same shape ferrule. However, there is concern about the reduction of the mechanical strength caused by the surface crack associated with the grinding process. We found that mechanical strength can be improved by appropriate treatment of the preform surface.
