Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A Kretschmann-type SPR sensor using a dielectric waveguide is analyzed by the beam-propagation method. First, we determine the metal film and the angle of incidence to obtain a high sensitivity. We then treat the case where the real or imaginary part of the refractive index of an analyte is varied independently. Evaluation of the reflectivity allows us to detect a change of 0.75% in the real refractive index, when the wavelength shifts by 24nm. We next consider the case where both the real and imaginary parts varies simultaneously. To achieve a higher sensitivity, a possibility of employing the phase variation is also investigated. As a result, a change of ±0.012% in the real refractive index can be detected provided a phase change of ±45° is measured.
