A Calculation Method of External Q Factor for Multi-Mode Filter Design Based on Synthesis of Transversal Resonator Array Filter

Abstract(in English) Based on a synthesis theory of transversal resonator array filter, a bandpass filter having transmission zeros can be easily designed by external quality factors and resonant frequencies of multiple resonators connected in parallel to input/output lines, without using coupling coefficients necessary for conventional direct-coupled filter designs. However, a useful design method for transversal array filters has not been developed yet, since a calculation method of external quality factors is limited in use of dual-mode filters. This paper establishes a generalized calculation method for external quality factors and resonant frequencies of multiple resonators. Furthermore, we also present a quantitative evaluation method of direct input/output coupling. The validity of the method is verified by comparing the electromagnetic simulation results with the circuit analysis of a four-mode bandpass filter.
