Proposal of Optimal Placement Method of Virtual Machine constituting OSS

Abstract(in English) Recently as the scale of network expands, the scale of the Operation Support System (OSS) expands correspondingly. Therefore, reducing the capital and operating expenditure for OSS is a critical problem. To solve this problem, system operation using virtualization technology, which reduces the number of physical servers by unifying multiple applications within virtual servers on each physical server, is one of the key solutions. It is necessary to prevent resource competition between multiple OSS applications and guarantee performance of each OSS application when managing the system using virtualization technology. It is also necessary to improve resource consumption efficiency and electricity consumption efficiency of physical servers by increasing the number of virtual machines unified on each physical server and moving virtual machines among the physical servers according to the resource consumption change of each physical servers. In this paper, we propose a optimal placement of virtual servers, which predict resource consumption of each OSS application from its task schedule, achieve improvement of resource consumption efficiency and electricity consumption efficiency, and guarantee the OSS application performance. Then by simulations we show our proposal method achieve 20 to 25% reduction of the capital and operating expenditure for OSS.
