A Study on MIMO-Based Spectrum Sharing

Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate the problem of efficient spatial spectrum sharing for cognitive radio systems employing multiantenna techniques with estimated channel state information. In cognitive radio systems, the secondary user is allowed to transmit concurrently with the primary user under the premise that the interference caused to the primary user can be kept under some predetermined threshold. By employing transmission power control and beamforming techniques, the secondary user can regulate the interference levels observed at the primary user. Unfortunately, these techniques usually rely on perfect interference channel knowledge which is not a realistic assumption for practical systems. With imperfect CSI, the existing techniques can not perfectly satisfy the target interference levels. In this paper, we study a cognitive radio system where the secondary user estimates the interference channel and performs spectrum sharing based on this estimate. We show the effects of the increased interference caused by the estimation error and in addition, we propose an additional transmit power constraint for the secondary user in order to achieve improved protection of the primary user when perfect channel knowledge is not available.
