Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, motion compensated frame interpolation (MCFI) have been proposed by various researchers. However, annoying degradation often appear around the block boundaries because block matching algorithm which is used for MCFI cause inappropriately overlapped regions or gap regions where pixels are not interpolated by any block. In this report, we propose a method which uses motion compensation not only for the key frame but also for the interpolated frame. After an interpolated frame is generated, motion estimation is further applied to the adjacent existing frames using an appropriately expanded macro block to eliminate gap regions. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
