Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed a new technique to measure the surface tension of liquid samples. In this technique, a local electric field applied on the liquid samples induces a small deformation of the sample surface. This technique enables us to measure the physical properties such as the surface tension and the viscosity without contacting the liquid surface. We can obtain the surface tension from a "meniscus" formed near the electrode and the viscosity from the relaxation time of the surface deformation. In this presentation, we introduce the principle of the technique and show the results of the measurement of some simple liquids.
