Evaluation of a Visualization System to Assess the Risk of Websites

Abstract(in English) A prototype visualization system for helping children learn to assess website features and use them to identify risky websites has been improved. It uses a graphical search interface called 'Concentric Ring View,' which was developed to support flexible retrieval of multi-faceted metadata. Four website risk levels (ranging from safe to risky), and eleven website attributes (including color, atmosphere, layout, number of images, and number of links) were defined. Two female university students using this system learned several characteristics distinguishing each risk level and thus obtained knowledge useful for identifying risky websites.
