Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Experts' appraisement and classification of pearls are based on glossiness and interfering color as well as shape and scuff. We aimed to compare novice observers' perception of pearl's beauty with expert appraiser's classification of pearls. Naive and novice 23 observers were asked to evaluate beauty of 18 pearls, which have been appraised by an expert before the experiment. Then, they were asked to evaluate glossiness and color vividness of the pearls. In results, observers' evaluation of beauty less correlated with the expert's evaluation (ranking of pearls). Rather observers' evaluation of glossiness highly correlated with the expert's evaluation. Thus, our naive perception of glossiness on pearls would be a source of experts' appraisement combining glossiness and inference color.
