Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We attempted to rate the impression of the townscape of Harbin, China in the three different periods (before the Bolshevik revolution, before the Manchurian Incident, the period of Manchukuo) of the three areas (Fujiadian, Pristan District, Novi Gorod Street) portrayed in Harbin postcards based on SD method. In this research, we divided those images into nine blocks in terms of the three periods in the three areas. Thus each participant rated the impression of a maximum of ten images from one of the nine blocks in random order on a scale of five regarding items of thirty adjective pairs. Our results indicated that the impression of the townscape of Harbin might show psychological semantic images and support historical backgrounds and traits of areas based on history.
