Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study we explore the relationships between the human behaviors(verbal/nonverbal fillers, silent pause) and the moods(relax, cohesiveness, activity, constraint) in silence situations of dyadic-conversation. We analyzed quantitatively the 33 scenes of dyadic-conversations which include silence situations by the following methods: (1) coding verbal and non-verbal human behaviors expressed among silences, and (2) independent evaluations of mood for those scenes by 15 university students. Then, we examined the influence of these behavioral variables on moods by using the multipleregression analysis and the cluster analysis. Results demonstrated that the length of verbal/nonverbal fillers and silent pauses had negative impacts on the moods of silence situations. On the other hand, an immediate reaction using verbal/nonverbal fillers after the silence contributes to reduce the awkward mood. The functions of fillers in human communication were discussed.
