Abstract(in English) Characteristics of the intensity noise in a semiconductor optical amplifier were experimentally measured and compared with those by theoretically analysis obtained by one of authors. The intensity noise is expressed as a term of the relative intensity noise (RIN) which is given as a ratio between square auto-correlated value of the intensity fluctuation to square value of the continuous wave (CW) component of the optical power. We confirmed properties that the RIN of the output light is reduced from the that of the input light when the optical power is rather large, although the RIN is increase when the input optical power is very small. Also we found that the RIN of the output light is decided with the optical power of the output light almost independent from the RIN of the input light when the driving current of the SOA is large enough.
