Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In the field of CARS spectroscopy using a broadband light source, nonresonant background (NRB) which lies on and hides resonant signals is known to be one of the major problems. Water is especially a large noise source which makes biomedical application quiet difficult. In this study, we proposed phase-sensitive detection of resonant signals normally buried in the NRB by a narrowband phase modulation on a broadband laser pulse. Here, the NRB are positively used as local oscillator for the detection. We demonstrated CARS spectroscopy based on the proposed phase sensitive method with a sample of chloroform molecules. We successfully obtain sharp resonant signals of chloroform with a frequency resolution of 8 cm^<-1> and signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 9 dB. We also extend our method to two dimensional microscopy for chloroform droplets in water. The chloroform droplets were clearly observed even when they were embedded in water.
