Problems in Educational Materials in DAISY for Mathematics and Science

Abstract(in English) Because of special situations in Japanese, there are some serious problems in reading out text-based DAISY mathematical content correctly with speech syntheis. In addition, math formulae are often read out in a wrong manner. In order to solve those problems, we propose improvement of DAISY standards. Based on this method, we developed a new authoring/browsing tool for text-based DAISY contents. Using it, both of sighted and various print-disabled people can produce a DAISY book raging from mathematics/science to non-technical one, in which all the content is read out in a correct manner.
