Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Before developing software which automatically makes station plans tangible, two preliminary surveys were conducted on blind persons' needs for tactile station plans and on station plans on the Web. The user needs survey showed the presence of needs for tactile station plans among younger generations, ultraviolet curing resin is most preferable as the way to produce tactile maps, tactile maps are desired to be delivered before visiting stations, and which facilities should be included in tactile maps. The Web survey revealed that station plans can be found on the Web for 31.6% of about 9,000 stations nationwide, 74.6% of them are GIF files, their projection methods are plain, one-point perspective, and isometric projection (about 30% each), which facilities are found in many station plans.
