Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | New Generation Network or future Internet architectures are being designed on the basis of ID/locator split concept. Unlike the current Internet, which uses IP addresses in the roles of IDs and locators, the future Internet would use two different numbering spaces for IDs and locators. NICT has proposed HIMALIS (Heterogeneity Inclusion and Mobility Adaptation through Locator ID Separation) architecture, in which mobility, multihoming, heterogeneous network protocols, and multiple routing domains are natively incorporated through the introduction of an identity layer. The architecture introduces ID/locator split-supporting new functions in hosts and in gateways (i.e., edge routers) as well as a new name resolution mechanism for storing, updating and retrieving dynamic mappings between hostnames and IDs and locators. This paper reports on the HIMALIS architecture, its implementation in Linux kernel space and performance evaluation in terms of latencies and throughputs in comparison with the conventional TCP/IP stack. The results indicate that the HIMALIS's throughput is similar to the TCP/IP stack although the former carries out additional functions for packet forwarding across heterogeneous network layer protocols. |
