Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Semiconductor-based optical modulators are particularly promising for applications in photonic network systems owing to their compactness, low driving voltage operation, and the potential for monolithic integration with other devices such as semiconductor lasers. The optical modulators create intensity or phase modulated optical signals through quantum-confined Stark effect (QCSE), carrier plasma effect, or electro-optic (Pockels) effect. In this talk I will give an outline of the operation principle and device structure of InP optical modulators. And then I will introduce the recent advances in the InP optical modulators.
