Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In radio-on-fiber systems, high-speed photodetectors generate millimeter-waves or microwaves from modulated lightwaves. Quality of generated signals depend on performance of the modulator used for optical signal generation. High-performance modulators designed for advanced digital modulation formats, such as quadrature phase shift keying would be used for millimeter-wave and microwave signal generation in radio-on-fiber systems. In addition to high-speed operation of the modulator, precise lightwave control would be required for particular applications. We will describe recent trends of research on optical modulation technologies for high-speed and precise lightwave control, and discuss requirements of modulators in millimeter-wave or microwave radio-on-fiber systems.
