Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Shadow removal technique is required for several computer vision algorithms to improve their accuracies. This paper introduces a new method for shadow detection and removal which uses a chromaticity plane derived from a physical model that considers ambient and direct illuminations. For estimating the chromaticity plane from a single image, we propose and estimation method that uses entropy minimization of shadow and non-shadow regions segmented by mean-sift. From the estimated shadow and non-shadowed regions, we determine shadow boundaries. Using these results, we tried to reconstruct a shadow free image by suppressing the change of brightness of shadow boundaries by using poisson equation. Because the chromaticity is kept during the reconstruction step, the shadow removal results with little color shift were obtained.
