| Abstract(in English) | This study examined the relationship between utterances and group conflicts or satisfaction with conversation in a small group discussion. Each of fifty groups composed of four participants engaged in a task-oriented conversation (38 groups) or a non-task-oriented (chat) conversation (12 groups) for thirty-five minutes. The results showed that the satisfaction with conversation was influenced by the quantity of utterances in task-oriented condition. On the other hand, the more unbalanced the utterances between the participants were, the more satisfied they felt in non-task-oriented condition. The unbalance of utterances made a negative interpersonal impression (i.e., activeness and participation in the conversation) of each other in task-oriented conversation group. These results were discussed in terms of the difference in the level of involvement that the participants were called for in each condition. |
