Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Reading comprehension exercises are often used in training English reading ability. Usually, exercises are provided by teachers or authors of exercises. So, English sentences used in exercises sometimes do not meet interests of learners. In addition, to read long sentences is sometimes difficult for learners who do not like English. The objective of our research is to generate crossword puzzle (crossword) for English comprehension exercises automatically in order to make learners enjoy in learning with English comprehension exercises. In generating crossword from English sentences, three steps are needed: 1) generate exercises from sentences, 2) select appropriate exercises, and 3) generate crossword using selected exercises. This paper focuses on step 2 and step 3. For step 2, for the purpose of selecting appropriate for learners, methods for calculating distribution of exercises in whole sentences and difficulty of exercises are introduced. For step 3, the method of generating crossword automatically from answers of selected exercises is also proposed..
