Abstract(in English) Introduction of coordinated multipoint (CoMP) operation for heterogeneous network deployment (HetNet) is discussed in LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) uplink. In the HetNet, uplink signals of macro and pico users (UEs) suffer from interference each other. However, by using CoMP reception, the uplink signals received at macro and pico nodes can be combined/separated in a multi-user (MU) MIMO manner and hence their performances can be significantly improved. In order to realize such spatial multiplexing, pilot signals transmitted by different UEs should be multiplexed/demultiplexed on the same frequency. Although the current uplink demodulation reference signal (DMRS) supports spatial multiplexing, its capability is not enough when the frequency-positions of multiplexed DMRSs are different. In this paper, we present a problem of current DMRS orthogonality in HetNet and then propose a frequency-dependent (FD) DMRS that achieves higher orthogonality among MU-MIMO UEs. We evaluate system and cell-edge throughput performances by system-level simulation. The simulation result reveals that the advantage of FD-DMRS over current DMRS is at least around 10%.
