Investigation on Interference Rejection Combining Receiver for Open-loop Transmit Diversity in LTE-Advanced Downlink

Abstract(in English) The interference rejection combining (IRC) receiver, which can suppress inter-cell interference, is effective in improving the cell-edge user throughput. The IRC receiver is typically based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criteria, which requires highly accurate channel estimation and covariance matrix estimation that includes the inter-cell interference. In this paper, assuming the cell edge where the IRC receiver is effective, we propose the scheme of applying the covariance matrix estimation based on the cell-specific reference signal for the open-loop transmit diversity using space-frequency block code (SFBC). The results of simulations assuming LTE/LTE-Advanced show that the IRC receiver using the proposed scheme, which has two receiver antenna branches, can suppress the inter-cell interference and improve the throughput compared to that of the conventional maximal ratio combining (MRC) receiver.
