Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper firstly describes disadvantages of well-known color quantization methods, namely, median cut and vector quantization, and it, then, proposes a new median cut-based color quantization method based on the weighted median statistics instead of the ordinary median. The proposed method is a multidimensional extension of the weighted median cut-based quantization method which has been proposed for grayscale images. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior in reducing quantization error to a median cut method and it is simultaneously faster than a vector quantization method.
