Abstract(in English) Cognitive radio has been intensively investigated as an enabling technology for unlicensed access to the TV White Spaces (TVWS). WiFi is a promising technology that can be utilized to implement cognitive radio. In the US and recently in UK, regulators are moving to conditionally open the VHF and UHV bands that used to be licensed for analog TV. These regulatory evolutions stimulate the development of standards for unlicensed radios. This paper provides an overview of the current regulations, and standard development regarding TVWS; while focusing on the 802.11af standard that is an on-going project for WiFi in TVWS.
