An Enhanced Feature Detection Method for DTV Signals by Detecting Aggregation of Correlation Peaks

抄録(英) For our goal of developing a hardware sensing system with robust field sensing, this paper proposes a robust sensing method for detection of digital TV (DTV) signals. Although the sensing method is expected to be robust for more than one type of DTV signals, we present it based on Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T) signals for the sake of simplicity. In the proposed method, we conduct sliding correlation of DVB-T with its pilot signal and exploit the newly discovered features for detection: some correlation peaks are observed only having slight difference of amplitudes and, distance between their positions in the sequence of sliding correlation outputs keep constant for different DVB-T timings. We then aggregate the peaks based on their positions and use the aggregation as test statistic. To best improve SNR gain, the aggregations are conducted for positive peaks and negative peaks separately first, and then the positive aggregation and negative aggregation are further aggregated for their original values. The analysis results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional method. Computer simulation results further verify the advantage of the proposed method over conventional one and show that, the proposed method achieves around 1 dB SNR gain with the same sampling time or reduces sampling time by about 25% for a target sensing performance, while increasing the computational load by around 0.0001%.
