Television White Space Channel Measurement and Characterization in Short-Range Outdoor Environment

抄録(英) In this paper we present television white space (TVWS) channel measurement results in several short-range outdoor environments. The measurement campaign has been performed in Singapore with co-operation from Infocomm Development Authority (IDA), Singapore. Various outdoor scenarios such as urban, sub-urban and hilly, industrial/business district have been considered along with different transmit/receive antenna heights. We utilize a custom-made TVWS device prototype having a bandwidth of 64 MHz centering 670 MHz and transmission power of 23 dBm. The instrument provides time domain accuracy of 0.1 microsecond. Three types of signaling, namely a pseudorandom (PN) sequence based BPSK signaling, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signaling and carrier wave (CW) have been used. The first one gives the chance to obtain time-domain channel response, while the second one gives chance to understand frequency/time selective fading. The third one is mainly for path loss measurement. Channel parameters such as root mean square (RMS) delay spread, coherence bandwidth, path-loss constant etc have been identified for the various scenarios considered. The fading characteristic has also been identified.
