The Hue-Preserving Contrast Enhancement Method in RGB Color Space

Abstract(in English) The contrast enhancement is an important role in the digital image/video processing. In color image enhancement, it is necessary that the hue and the saturation are preserved and RGB components are distributed uniformly. The contrast enhancement methods in HSI color space have been proposed. Though, these methods have Gamut problem in RGB color space. Naik et al. proposed a new framework that enables contrast enhancement for color image in RGB color space. Moreover, Han et al. proposed histogram equalization method in the framework. In this method, histogram equalization is applied to the luminance component, and a hue preserving transformation is applied to obtain RGB values. However, this method produces the low saturation image. In this paper, we propose the color image enhancement preserving hue without low saturation in RGB color space. Furthermore, the histogram equalization which considers the uniformity of RGB components is used to achieve more effective contrast enhancement.
