Trend in Optical Cabling Technology for the Multi-Dwelling Unit Buildings

Abstract(in English) At the end of September in 2011, the number in Japan of FTTH access service subscriptions has reached 21.42 million of +2.32 million increasing compared with the same month of the previous year. However, the number of increases is on a downward trend every year. The promotion of optical cabling system for the Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) buildings where it accounts for about 40 percent of the number of all households in Japan is viewed as a way to the effective steps to stable increase of the subscriptions in the future. In this report, a recent development trend in optical cabling technology for MDU buildings is reviewed, and future tasks are discussed.
