Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We conducted a experiment in which a conversational robot turns toward a subject. The subject evaluated "the degree of a gaze" and "the correctness of the gaze". The gaze of the robot without eyes clearly showed that it is felt the same as a robot with eyes, and that 10-degree error is permitted. Moreover, we discovered that the horizontal shortage of rotation, gave "sink eye effect". Based on the knowledge acquired from the experiment, we developed the system with which a robot turns and makes eye contact when a user's gaze had been perceived. This paper reports the result of the experiment which verifies whether a user speaking to a conversational robot easily by this system.
